Course Description: This 1.5-Day Training program is designed to provide students with a good working knowledge of the DNP 3.0 protocol. Students will learn about the protocol, its features, capabilities, message structure, polling options, practical uses and benefits. The course also covers current topics such as DNP Subset Definitions, DNP Conformance Testing and DNP LAN-WAN standard.
This course is designed to be product independent, but the instructor will work to relate the course to the various DNP products utilized by the customer. Additionally, an overview of the usage of a DNP 3.0 Test Set will be included in the course.

  2. OSI 7 Layer Protocol Model Review Background into concept of protocol layers
  3. Features of DNP Overview of the features and capabilities of DNP
  4. DNP Polling and Communication Options Review of various DNP polling scheme options
  5. Implementing DNP on IEDs Highlighting the qualities separating good DNP implementations from others
  6. DNP Layer Analysis (DNP Serial and DNP LAN-WAN standards) Review of DNP 3 structure for serial communication and DNP over TCP/IP & UDP/IP
  7. DNP Subset Definitions and Conformance Testing Overview of the DNP Subset Definitions and Conformance Test procedures designed to promote Plug and Play Interoperability between DNP devices.
