About Applied Systems Engineering
Applied Systems Engineering Inc. (ASE) is a smart grid protocol technology leader and a leading manufacturer of Remote Terminal Unit (RTU)/Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) protocol test equipment for the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) industry. Other products include communication protocol translators, front-end processors, substation alarm annunciators, terminal servers, modems, and source code libraries. Based in Campbell, California, ASE has developed market leading substation protocol test sets for more than 100 substation and industrial protocols, over a 30 year period. In January 2015, ASE became part of Kalkitech, a provider of communication and optimization solutions for the Smart Grid.
ASE was founded in 1981 by Bill Whittemore, who was later joined by Jack Verson and Bob Krebsbach. ASE started by providing software consulting services to the SCADA industry. In 1989, ASE developed it’s first protocol test set COMM/32, and from then on the company grew to support over 100 protocols. Today, ASE is one of the market leaders in protocol test sets for utility protocols with its ASE2000 product. Other products include protocol converters, substation alarm annunciators, terminal servers, modems, and source code libraries.
