How it works
EV submetering is the process of measuring electrical usage specific to your EV through a submeter. It distinguishes your EV charging from your non-EV usage.
An EV submeter can be:
- EV charging equipment with a submeter inside of it, or a standalone unit that can exist external to the EV charging equipment.
- The EV submeter measures the power that flows to your vehicle and stores that data for billing purposes.
- PG&E uses that data to bill you for your EV charging distinctly from the power you use for non-EV purposes.
